The popular English actress and model Keira Christina Knightley’s iconic purple silk gown from her recently released period movie Anna Karenina will be displayed at the forthcoming autumn exhibition 'Hollywood Costume', scheduled to begin from October 20, 2012, at London’s Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum.

The 27-year-old Keira’s sumptuously lavish outfit, seasoned with ruffle-y bustle and mega pouffy skirt, was designed by the famous British costume designer Jacqueline Durran.

The designer has won various prestigious awards, including BAFTA, and has also received Oscar nominations for her designs in several British films.

The exotic period gown will be showcased along with the costume exhibition’s exhibits of more than hundreds of the most iconic American movie outfits from across a century of film-making. The event will highlight the pivotal role costume designing plays in cinema storytelling.

'Hollywood Costume' will offer once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the movie lovers to explore their favourite characters in movies. It will give an insight into the costume designer’s creative process from script to screen and reveal the collaborative dialogue that leads to the invention of authentic people in the story.

The cinematic exhibition will also examine the changing social and technological context in which costume designers have worked over the last century.

The show is a three-gallery journey from early Charlie Chaplin silent pictures to the motion capture costume design for Avatar (Deborah L. Scott, Mayes C. Rubeo, 2010) and John Carter (Mayes C. Rubeo, 2012). The exhibition spans a wide range of films including ‘Fight Club’, ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘Star Wars’.

The event will also display Judy Garland's gingham pinafore in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, the black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany's’, Sharon Stone's racy white number from ‘Basic Instinct', Marilyn Monroe's white cocktail dress from ‘Some Like It Hot’ and Daniel Radcliffe's Gryffindor uniform as seen in the ‘Harry Potter’ movie series.
