Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa showcases 35 designers

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa, the biggest fashion event in the entire African continent, concluded with a display of a range of avant-garde creations by more than 35 renowned designers from countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Mozambique, Ivory Coast, Angola, Tanzania, Cameroon, Morocco and France.

Organized by Africa Fashion International (AFI), the four-day-long event held at South Africa’s Johannesburg featured nearly 20 runway shows.

Many popular names from the fashion world, including swimwear designer Dax Martin and UK-based and Democratic Republic of Congo-born fashion designer Tina Lobondi, showcased their exquisite ensembles at the glitzy fashion soiree.

South African designer and UNICEF Ambassador Gavin Rajah featured his Luminescent Luxury collection on the second day of the event.

His line showcased laser-cut vinyl blossoms, gold bullion embroidered quilted cameos, pristine pencil skirts with back panel flourishes, bias cut multi-panelled dresses and sporty baseball jackets.

French designer Fred Sathal presented a scintillating show with his collection titled Constellation on the same day. The range was heavy on intricately detailed star-spangled dresses, jackets and tops, seasoned with sequins, beads, thread patterns and rhinestones.

Started around five years ago, the African Fashion International serves as a platform for bringing in designers from the entire continent to limelight.
