A one of a kind exhibition displaying the exotic outfits worn by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her sixty-year-long reign is going to take place at London’s Fashion and Textiles Museum from November 16 to February 23, 2013.

Titled as 'Hartnell to Amies: Couture by Royal Appointment’, the special event would exhibit nearly 150 dresses, such as ball gowns, cocktail dresses and ready-to-wear outfits, designed by the famous royal couturiers Sir Norman Bishop Hartnell and Sir Edwin Hardy Amies.

Other than dresses, several previously unseen watercolour sketches of the iconic outfits donned by the HRH during her Coronation ceremony and first cocktail evening will also be on display.

Additionally, various samples of embroidery from the dresses sported by the queen during her overseas state visits between the period of 1950s and 1960s will also be featured in the exhibition.

British fashion designer Sir Hartnell has been given the Royal Warrant as Dressmaker to Queen Elizabeth II in the year 1957.

The English fashion designer and founder of the Hardy Amies label, Sir Amies was officially titled as dressmaker for Queen Elizabeth II since her accession to the throne in 1952 until his retirement in 1989.

Both Hartnell and Amies have helped in shaping and presenting the queen’s eclectic sartorial choices, which have heavily influenced the international aristocratic fashion circuits.
