London celebrates 50 years of Valentino's work

This festive season London has lots to offer to its fashion conscious citizens. Somerset House, the arts and cultural centre of the city, is hosting a special exhibition celebrating the work of the master couturier of all times ‘Valentino Garavani’.
 
The exhibition titled ‘Valentino: Master of Couture’ is being organized as a tribute to the fine craftsmanship of the Italian fashion designer, who has completed glorious fifty years of his professional life in the industry.
 
More than 130 Valentino handcrafted pieces, comprising of dresses featured in various haute couture catwalk presentations, red carpet occasions and designs specially made for his private clients, are being exhibited at the ongoing event which will run till March 3, 2013.
 
Some of the special outfits displayed at the event include a vintage gown worn by Julia Roberts during her 2001 Oscar appearance, Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s wedding dress and the ivory-coloured pearl-embedded silk wedding gown of Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece.
 
Other than the opulent display of the couturier’s masterpieces, the visitors will also get a first hand glimpse of some rare photographs from his personal archives and a peek into his atelier through some custom-made films.
 
80-year-old Valentino is the founder of the Valentino label. His major lines include Valentino, Valentino Garavani, Valentino Roma and R.E.D. Valentino.
