A red, green and blue V-neck sweater, hand knitted by Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, has gone under the hammer at an auction event in Myanmar, a sovereign state in Southeast Asia.

Bought by Myanmar-based radio station Shwe FM, the pullover was sold at an unbelievable amount of US$ 49,000, reported The Indian Express.

Suu Kyi knitted the sweater some 30 years ago when she was in England busy working, studying and raising her two children, her close aide Ko Ni told Associated Press.

Part of an education fundraiser for poor children, the auction was organized in Rangoon by the country’s opposition party National League for Democracy (NLD).

A well known personality in Myanmar, 67-year-old Suu Kyi is the chairperson of the NLD.
