Designers from north-eastern states of India would stand a chance to showcase their innovative products before country’s renowned designers at a fashion show slated to be held in Guwahati, the largest city of Assam as well as of north-eastern India, during February 20-23, 2012.

The show being organized by Basics Concepts and Marketing Private Limited, a private event management company, in association with Home Ministry and Assam government, would be the first North East Fashion Festival.

Addressing media, Director of Basic Concepts, Anand Kumar said Basic Concepts would organize the event, while Assam government and Indian Tourism Development Corporation would provide the venue and logistic support.

Representatives of all north-east Indian states would be allotted space at the event to exhibit their products, he added.

Director of North-East Division of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ajay Kanaujai said the main aim of the festival is to draw the attention of leading fashion designers of the country towards the inherent strength of the fashion industry of states in the region.

Mr. Kanaujai said Indian fashion industry has yet not exploited the potential of the industry of these states to the fullest, and the festival is meant to serve this purpose.

Project Coordinator Shyam Kanu Mahanta said the event would mainly emphasize on encouraging and promoting the silk producers and weavers of the states in the region.

He said Assam alone houses about 2.5 million weavers, and such events are meant to further them with an opportunity to get in direct touch with top most fashion designers of the country.
