The from1000 Transparency Prize is collaboration between Belgian art director and fashion designer Bruno Pieters and American fashion journalist Kristopher Arden-Houser. In collaboration with Designers’ Nest, they are announcing the world’s first academic fashion prize based on the founding principles of Pieters revolutionary company Honest by - centering on transparency.

2013 marks the first year of this prize, where Pieters and Arden-Houser will sift through student collections and graphic materials from nine Nordic fashion academies as part of the Designers’ Nest, where H.R.H. Crown Princess Mary of Denmark sits as patron. The pair will review two cycles of the competition (February and August 2013), selecting one student designer to represent the prize.

The promising young designer will be awarded a mentorship by both founding members, developing a unique product collaboration, which will be presented at VISION in February 2014.

Designer’s Nest was founded in 2003 by Jan Busch Carlsen (Founder of VISION) and the Designers’ Nest Show & Award was launched in 2005 to expose and promote up-and-coming Scandinavian designers to global buyers, designers, media and trendsetters. Today the Award show has evolved into an internationally renowned platform for new Scandinavian design talents and is an integral part of the international fashion trade fair VISION.

"I believe we are living in a moment where it is becoming clear that not just fashion design but any kind of product we create needs to be made in a progressive and sustainable way. As a child I dreamed of fashion, as an adult I realized that I needed to wake up so the dream could continue. Honest by is honored to partner with from1000 and Designers’ Nest. With this prize we would like to reward designers who are able to create collections with a story behind them that is as beautiful as the design”. - Bruno Pieters

“from1000 was conceived as a series of ideas, based on my travels and reportage, connecting my search for next generation fashion “talents” into collaborative projects. As the founding member of this prize, I am eager to support and advise young designers who show ambitions for transparency. I could not ask for a better partner, in this prize, than Honest by and Mr. Pieters, their commitment to responsible design, pricing and production are paramount. Equally it is a happy reunion to partner with Designers’ Nest, for which I have sat on the jury many times and in a city like Copenhagen, it all seems like the natural place for us to host this kind of prize”. - Kristopher Arden-Houser

“It really is such an honor to have two so inspiring and creative personalities to take Designers’ Nest to another level. It really is important to push forward the emerging talent in Scandinavia and this was the perfect opportunity for Designers’ Nest to give way for the designers who are also thinking transparency into their collection. It fits very well with the Danish way of thinking.” Natasha Skou
