The eleventh Chittagong Apparel, Fabrics and Accessories Exposition (CAFAXPO) 2013, a fair showcasing product diversification and expansion of backward linkage through textile accessories, organized by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association’s (BGMEA), has begun today.

The fair aims at attracting international buyers to source their apparel from Bangladesh, BGMEA first Vice President Nasir Uddin Chowdhury said.

It showcases the expertise of domestic garment and accessories firms and their efforts in attaining the global standards, he added.

The expo each year attracts several overseas buyers and helps participants in securing spot orders worth several million takas, Mr. Chowdhury said.

Participants secured around US$ 17 million or Tk 140 million worth of spot orders during CAFAXPO 2012, he said.

Mr. Chowdhury said global buyers have now started appreciating the strength of the Bangladeshi apparel industry, which has built a massive skilled workforce, and the factories have not only improved their work environment but have also enhanced their efficiency to cater to rising global demand.

During last fiscal, the clothing sector contributed US$ 19 billion to Bangladesh’s overall export earnings.
