A delectable amalgamation of contrasts, ranging from creepy crawlers and quirky silhouettes to French aristocracy, was seen on the runways of the ongoing Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at New York.

American fashion designer and business woman Tory Burch opened the sixth day of the event with her insect-inspired collection. Drawing inspiration from the Art Nouveau masters like French glass designer René Lalique and Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt, her latest Fall/Winter collection was decorated with bugs, scarab beetles and dragon flies. The ensembles include dropped-waist outfits, high necks, stiffly pleated modest length skirts, bomber-cardigans and belted tea dresses in a bohemian palette of teal, purple, crimson and nude.

Famous clothing retailer J Crew presented its multi-coloured evening and daywear collection created by the brand’s womenswear design head Tom Mora at the event. Made of lush fabric textures, the casualwear line was accentuated with bold prints and intricate patterns. The purple, burgundy, pink and cobalt hued ensembles included cropped trousers, checked peacoats, cashmere knits, sparkling diamante collared shirts and shoulder-robed jackets.

High-profile celebrity wedding gown designer Vera Wang featured classic tailoring styles and a variety of exaggerated silhouettes in her latest designs. Sculptural shapes like cocoons, bubbles and peplums dominated on vests, dresses and jackets featured on her show. The chic feminine collection showcased kimonos, capes, printed chiffon skirts and stone rose jacquard gowns.

British fashion designer Jenny Packham’s Fall 2013 collection was inspired by the 17th century Parisian nobility which celebrated the sophisticated tastes of women in art and philosophy. With an abundant use of lush luxuriant fabrics, the ensembles of the line, which mainly comprised of dresses, gowns and skirts, were based on rich tones of midnight blue, scarlet red, hazy black, earthy cinnamon and shiny opals.
