Paris – the mere mention of the name of this magical city evokes images of high-class haute couture creations and big internationally renowned fashion houses. However, an exhibition displaying sartorial eccentricities which are a far cry from anything that comes under the category of wearable or accessible fashion is going on at the city’s digital arts and modern music centre La Gaîté Lyrique.

Titled as ‘ARRRGH! Monsters in Fashion’, the exhibition features a range of costume and clothing designs inspired by animations and sketches of monster forms.

An attempt to question the viewer’s pre-conceived notions of beauty and dressmaking, the event exhibits more than eighty challenging avant-garde creations by 55 artists and designers, which includes the likes of Alexander McQueen, Walter Van Beirendonck, Maison Martin Margiela, Issey Miyake and Dai Fujiwara.

The featured fashion extreme exhibits include a faceless chainsaw-wielding mannequin, animalistic meticulous bear skirt, monkey and teddy bear outfits as well as lip-shaped headpieces.

Created in partnership with the Greek non-profit organization ATOPOS Contemporary Visual Culture, the exhibition, which would runt till April 7, 2013, was first organized at Athens-based Benaki Museum.
