An awe-inspiring, drool worthy collection of ten magnificent royal gowns, straight from the personal wardrobe of the late Princess of Wales Diana, has gone under the hammer at London’s Kerry Taylor Auctions.

Titled Fit for a Princess, the fashionable royal’s dress auction fetched a whopping sum of US$ 1.2 million in total, owing largely to a midnight blue coloured Victor Edelstein velvet gown, which was sold for over US$ 360,000.

The British princess wore the Edelstein-designed off-the-shoulder couture dress during her famous dance with ‘Saturday Night Fever’ actor John Travolta at the White House’s state dinner (1985) hosted by the then US President Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy.

Designed by the likes of Zandra Rhodes, Catherine Walker and Bruce Oldfield, the auctioned 10-piece collection was originally bought at a fund raising event hosted in New York in June 1997, a couple of months before Princess Diana’s death.
