The Japanese sartorial soiree Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tokyo (MBFWT) concluded with a display of an eclectic array of latest Autumn/Winter 2013 collections from the who’s who of the Japanese as well as international fashion industry.

Internationally renowned 76-year-old Japanese designer Hiroko Koshino once again mesmerised the audience with her latest runway presentation titled Floral Memories. The veteran’s line showcased her signature draped and folded fabrics made of ancient textiles, leather, sequins and fur. Based on pink, the range included sheaths, kimonos and brightly hued short dresses.

Lady Gaga’s favourite designer Masanori Morikawa, from the fashion brand Christian Dada, featured his fall 2013-14 ensembles for both men and women on the second day of MBFWT. The edgy fusion line titled Fenghuang (Chinese name for the mythical bird phoenix) included shirts with richly embroidered sleeves, down-panelled trousers and leather jackets in shades of black, white, red, blue and gold.

Clothing label Ariunna Suri, by Mongolia born and Germany-based designer Ariunaa Surenjav, showcased a brightly coloured Asia inspired wintery line. Decorated with raised shoulders and bunched sleeves, the range included pencil skirts, tights, long sleeve tops and cropped jackets.

Dutch fashion designer Conny Groenewegen presented a collection which was heavily influenced by the styles of Japanese designers. Known for her innovative knitwear creations, the designer showcased off-shouldered dresses, tight fitting short skirts and jumpsuits based on a basic colour palette of black and white with occasional splashes of red and orange.
