Stringy, revealing sexy two-piece swimsuits are an indispensable part of the Brazilian life and this essential attire was once again highlighted at the just concluded sartorial soiree Fashion Rio, which staged around 25 catwalk shows representing the next austral summer trends.

The event showcased a range of leggy, tanned models strutting in skimpy, tiny-weeny bikinis designed by the young and seasoned labels of the beautiful nation, known for its sun kissed beaches and tropical climate.

Designer duo Thomaz and Sharon Azulay, behind the fashion label Blue Man, drew inspiration from the history of Brazil for their new collection. Taking cues from vivid landscapes, the line was infused with motifs of Portuguese tiles and crazy vibrant flora and fauna prints. The ensembles included bikinis, one-piece swimsuits and tankinis.

The holiday mood of Italian summers, replete with background scores by Dean Martin and Sophia Loren, was recreated at brand Salinas’ show. Blending classic shapes of the 50s with the glamour of modern days, designer Jacqueline De Biase featured polka dotted bikinis, shorts and hot pants detailed with fringes and luscious fruity prints.

Brazil’s bikini queen, Lenny Niemeyer showcased a futuristic yet elegant line of swimwear. Made from neoprene, lycra, vinyl, tulle and silk, the collection featured metallic tubes, tailored corsets, high-waist minis and colour-blocked tops.
