ALIAKIM FASHIONS INC is a distinctive accessory and clothing line that blends fashion with activism. Each piece uniquely melds cultural images with high-end fashion elements to artistically raise awareness to current world affairs.
he mission of this fashion line is to provide cultivated women everywhere with clothing and accessories that express their advocacy as sophisticatedly as their femininity. Giving meaning to the term “revolutionary chic”, it is the intention of this line to put the “wear” in “awareness” and, as a result, inspire change.
Adhering to this year’s AFWNY theme “The Pattern of Sustainable Luxury”, currently 5 percent of Aliakim’s profits go to a social organization called SOS Village in South Sudan. It takes in child soldiers who have lost their families in the civil war between Northern and Southern Sudan, educates, and provides them with psychological counseling.
In addition, the founder, Mikaila Brown’s long- term goal is to travel to different countries and produce her collections in those areas to fund the local economies. She actually travelled to India last year to produce her current collection.
AFWNY includes exhibitions, industry networking events and runway shows hosting 21+ designers from an array of African countries and the African Diaspora.
