‘Mod’ifions notre environnement’ (Let’s modify our environment) is the theme for the second edition of Haiti Fashion Week scheduled to be held in Petion-ville, at the Caribe Convention Center  during September 19-21, 2013.

The fashion event aims to enhance awareness and respect for environment amongst designers and at the same time encourage them to design in harmony with the environment and also recycle materials to give them a second life and thereby address some of the environmental issues confronting the industry.

Besides Haitian fashion designers, the event would also showcase work of foreign designers including those from the EU, US, Africa and the Caribbean, Michel Chestnut, Coordinator of the event said during a media briefing.

Maguy Durce, president of Haiti Fashion Week 2013, said that in spite of its dates coinciding with New York Fashion Week, around 40 local as well as foreign designers have already expressed interest for participating in Haiti Fashion Week 2013.

Also, describing Haiti as a land of art and creativity that can live fashion, Ms. Durce expressed hope that the event would serve as a real source of income for Haitian designers.

In addition to fashion shows, this year’s event would also host business meetings, an exhibition-sale and a forum on the textile industry.

The first edition of Haiti Fashion Week, held last year, drew over 7,000 visitors.
