Several trade deals struck at Expo Pakistan 2006

Humayun Akhtar, Federal Minister for Commerce, met around 32 foreign delegations to discuss over opportunities to explore and expand trade avenues during a four day Expo Pakistan 2006 held recently.

To expand trade in western Africa and thereby have market access in the whole continent, Pakistan plans to build a warehouse in Senegal, said Humayun Akhtar Khan.

The Minister, talking to a trade delegation of Senegal representing an association of women said, the warehouse would make it easier for continuous supply of Pakistani products in African markets.

The delegation headed by Aida Bitey Niang, praised Pakistan's textiles and garments for their variety and competitive prices.

South Korean delegation led by Woo Ju Wan called on the Federal Commerce Minister expressing its intention to import garments and carpets from Pakistan.

The delegation informed that they had signed a contract for importing cotton yarn from Pakistan.

The establishment of Textile City and Garment City near Port Qasim has increased business opportunities.

Humayun offered to share 50 percent burden of freight cost to bring used machinery to Pakistan from South Korea.

The delegation suggested enhancing trade between the two countries by starting a direct airline service from Pakistan to South Korea and back.

South African delegate was interested in importing fruits and dairy products from Pakistan.

A delegate from Morocco also expressed the desire to import denim.
