More than thirty young and experienced designers showcased their latest collections at the recently concluded African fashion revelry Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town (MBFWCT).

With a primary focus on women designers, the 10-day-long event highlighted the works of many female design talents, such as Jenny le Roux and Gabi Rosenwerth.

Inspired from the works of South African abstract painter Walter Battiss, designer Stefania Morland featured a very bold Spring/Summer 2013-2014 range. The 40-piece collection was based on vibrant hues of tangerine, blue and gold.

Fashion label Loin Cloth & Ashes, from designer Anisa Mpungwe, showcased a sportswear like comfy urban line. Made from kitenge and kente fabrics, the line was a delectable amalgamation of modern retro cuts and African heritage.

Drawing inspiration from nature, designers Olivia Kennaway and Alice Heusser behind the label Lalesso presented a collection replete with various geometrically shaped pieces as well as tailored ensembles made of soft silk.

MBFWCT was organized by the African Fashion International, which serves as a platform for bringing in African designers from the entire continent to the forefront.
