It was no ordinary runway at the recently concluded 12th edition of Jember Fashion Carnival 2013, where models walked on streets, instead of ramps, to feature apparel creations from Indonesian designers.

Held in the city of Jember, East Java, the event saw several avant-garde fashion collections from local designers belonging to six different Indonesian cities.

Attended by thousands of media persons and tourists, the theme of the carnival was Artechsion (Art meets Technology and Illusion), which featured designs inspired from Tibet, Venice, bamboo, art deco and tribes.

Now a major tourist attraction, Jember Fashion Carnival was originally conceived as an effort to establish Jember as a major fashion destination of Indonesia.
