A unique exhibit, exploring the aesthetic, cultural and communicative innovations of two major fashion industries from the 1980s to 1990s era, has been recently inaugurated at the Museo della Città, located in the Province of Rimini, Italy.

Scheduled to run till December 8, 2013, the event titled as ‘80s 90s Fashion Facing Beauties - Italian fashion and Japanese Fashion at a Glance’ aims to highlight the best of both the fashion systems, which were at their peak during the end of the last century.

Sourced from the Archivi di Ricerca Mazzini, Lombardy, Italy, the featured exhibits include a collection of some signature prêt-à-porter designs by Italian designers like Armani, Versace, Ferré, Moschino and Coveri as well as famous Japanese fashion talents like Miyake, Kawakubo and Yamamoto.

In addition to the vast display of exhibits, which also feature creations from the 1981’s historical fashion show in Paris, the event also includes talks between the fashion experts from 80s and 90s.

The exhibited items have been curated by the Professor of Fashion Theory and Fashion Design at the University of Bologna, Simona Segre Reinach, in collaboration with the Italian institution’s fashion degree students.

The inauguration ceremony of the event saw the presence of leading fashion bigwigs from both the countries, such as Akiko Fukai, (director and chief curator of the Kyoto Costume Institute), fashion designer Romeo Gigli and Italian retailer and fashion collector Attilio Mazzini.
