“Indonesia Calling” was the title of the BIN House fashion show by Obin. Fashion enthusiasts had been waiting for the show held at the 2014 Jakarta Fashion Week. While most guests seemed to have known what the collection would look like, Obin presented something rather different and shocking instead.

Started with the song Let’s Stay Together by Al Green, the models one by one went out in ready-to-wear batik, weaving and ikat-detailed clothes. All ten models on the runway were putting a huge smile on their faces, illustrating a blushing girl when a guy she likes greets her.

In the second sequence, once again Obin gave a surprise. Not only did the models walk on the runway, they also danced. With the song Kiss by Prince, Obin showcased clothes like batik legging, loose pants¸ jumpers with ruffles detail, and ikat accents. The models also wore sneakers to show that traditional clothes can be mixed with modern look.

The patriotic nuance was shown in the third sequence, as Obin brought out kebaya encim and shawl in daring colors, accompanied by a song about puteri Solo (Solo Princess). The yellow kebaya encim was mixed with purple shawl, and the blue kebaya encim was combined with orange shawl. There was also mix-and-match in the motifs. The kebaya encim with vertical lines looked harmonious with the plaid skirt. All looked playful but still “Obin”.

The song When Forever Has Gone by Demis Roussos was played as the last sequence began. Kebaya encim was back as the signature piece of BIN House, added with batik shawl in bright colors and cheongsam collar. After 40 looks were shown, Obin or Josephine W. Komara stepped out to the runway as the audience gave her the applause
