Pricey Fashion Week keep designers at bay

Many designers are opting out of Australian Fashion Week (AFW) due to high costs and limited slots.

Leading designer, Michelle Cook says that she had been trying to make it to this event, but each would have to back out because of the high prices.

She explains that paying such big amount is not worth it unless there is extensive media coverage.

Hence, many designers prefer to display their collections in Sydney just before the start of AFW from 26-30 April.

Cook presented her Billion Dollar Babes range at the Sydney's Dolphin Hotel, while Michael Azzolini show is scheduled on Tuesday followed by Nicola Finetti and Alex Perry on Wednesday.

However, Akira Isogawa will open AFW with Lisa Ho, Marnie Skillings and Jayson Brunsdon.

Funding from federal export agency Austrade will help bring out about 60 buyers from 20 countries, with a further 200 buyers, agents and media also expected to attend.
