Fashion Weeks are becoming more and more popular each year, with designers from moffusil towns getting recognition not only nationally, but internationally as well.

Designers and industry players are now looking at more options, more venues to organize such shows that will provide further opportunity as well as income.

One strong contestant that the organizers are debating over is Kolkata.

Many designers from this metro city are slowly being recognized all over the world.

Kiran Uttam Ghosh, a Kolkota based designer, believes that this "City of Joy" can be a venue for a major fashion week in the near future but would have to improve its international connectivity as the buyers from different countries require easy and efficient accessibility to the designers.

Lalit Jalan, leading fashion retailer-owner, feels that the city is yet to adopt a professional attitude towards fashion.

Though Kolkata is producing a large number of designers and models who are interracially acclaimed, it still lacks infrastructure and proper facilities to host such events.

However, if FDCI chooses it as a venue, the Fashion Show can be staged.

Rohit Gandhi, a FDCI board member, agrees that the city has great potential and says that Indian fashion is still in its infancy and does not discount Kolkata as a preferred fashion show host city in the near future.
