The fashion scene of South Africa is to undergo a transformation with the announcement of two new world-class fashion weeks.
The events will bring South Africa in line with international fashion calendar with the staging of Autumn/Winter fashion week.
The events are scheduled to take place during March 2007 under the titles of Cape Town Fashion Week and Jo'burg Fashion Week.
It will be planned to run within days of each other so as to facilitate attendance by foreign media and trade.
The move was prompted by pressure from Designers and fashion media exerted pressure for staging of Autumn/Winter collections.
This would help local designers to have a platform to compete on a global level year round and update South Africa's fashion with International fashion scenario.
Cape Town Fashion Week and Jo'burg Fashion Week will compliment three major Spring/Summer fashion weeks which is held annually between June and July.
World-class talent of South African designers will become more accessible to international audiences with the staging of these events.
Government and SACTWU will be approached to ensure benefits of these Fashion Weeks accrue to entire industry, said Paul Jackson, Managing Director of Leisureworx.
