Turkey's socks' exports touch $1.1bn in 2013: ITKIB

Turkey exported socks worth US$ 1.1 billion during last year, indicating a rise of 16 percent compared to 2012, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (ITKIB).
 
According to the ITKIB data, in 2013 turkey exported a total of 1.4 billion pairs of socks as opposed to the 1.2 billion pairs exported in 2012, registering a rise of 10.5 percent year-on-year.
 
The UK remained the main destination for exports of socks from Turkey with the country exporting 374.7 million pairs of socks to the UK amounting to $282.5 million. Germany ranked second with Turkey exporting 303.5 million pairs of socks worth $235.6 million to the country.
 
During 2013, Turkey exported socks worth $113.1 million to France, $54.4 million to the Netherlands and $38.5 million to Italy.
 
Turkey exported socks worth $991.8 million in 2012, registering a decline of 6.1 percent, compared to the $1 billion exports of socks made in 2011.
 
As per the ITKIB data, Turkey exported apparel worth $17.3 billion during 2013, recording a rise of 8.3 percent compared to 2012.
