Over 200 national and international artists showcased their exceptional creations at the just held edition of [FAT] Arts & Fashion Week, a multi-faceted annual event that celebrates contemporary art and fashion design.

Running into ninth year, the five-day-long Toronto event featured more than 50 cutting-edge runway shows, staged under the theme of INFASHION/UNFASHION, from both emerging and established designers.

Created under sub-themes like Earth/Industry, Grit/Glamour, Masculine/Feminine, Cult/Culture and Minimal/Extreme, the catwalk parades showcased African-inspired wear by self-taught designer Niapsou Di and a minimalistic collection by Montreal-based talent Luca Galardo.

Designer Melissa Bolduc opted to present a multi-layered draping and asymmetrical line enhanced womenswear range, whereas designer Hasti Homayoun chose to unveil a unique cotton made raincoat, painted with Persian motifs, at the soiree.

Masha Apparel label’s most standout piece was the luxe velvet grey-purple deep V-neck dress, while Starkers Corsetry dazzled the runway with its sci-fi inspired leather dress, featuring white and black layered pleats and shoulder armour.

Fashion brand Baby Steinberg sent a soft tulle and lacework adorned orange dress down the runway and Porte designer Christine Youn took inspiration from the transitory phase between winter and spring seasons for her jagged laser-cut detailed collection.

In addition to the above mentioned designers, the Canadian event also celebrated the Earth Day (April 22, 2014) with its parades dedicated to eco-friendly collections, crafted from re-purposed textiles and recycled embellishments adorned with 3D prints, LED and hybrid elements.

[FAT] Arts & Fashion Week highlights breakthrough inventions in fashion design, photography, installation, film, video, performance, music and dance.
