About 18 well-established and emerging Kenyan designers will showcase their collections at the forthcoming fifth edition of Festival for African Fashion & Arts (FAFA), slated to take place on May 31, 2014, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Considered as one of the biggest fashion shows in the African country, the event will be celebrated under the theme ‘Fashion for Peace’ with a special focus on South Sudan conflict.

Local fashion talents Deepa Dosaja, known for her nature inspired vibrantly coloured creations, Kibue Wambui (the owner of Kenya’s popular label Angelsmile House of Design), and the globetrotting designer Aryam will feature their creations at the soiree.

The ethnic African style-inspired menswear and womenwear designer Nick Ondu, semi-formal and bridalwear expert Shenu Hooda, ready-to-wear brand KikoRomeo, luxury womenswear name Kooroo and alternative bridal gown maker Anna Adero will also present their catwalk collections at the fashion do.

In addition, the classic timeless fashion creator Muna Yemane, Jamil Walji (known for European and African design infused apparels), and evening and cocktail wear designer Azara Walji will also participate at the event.

Additionally, the soiree will feature a collective catwalk collection from a group of South Sudanese designers as well as some vibrant apparel designs from two Botswana-based designers.

Part of the proceedings from the glitzy affair, which would be attended by Jua Kali artisans, visual artists, musicians, writers, sportsmen, tourism professionals, environmentalists, media and business people, will go to the Seed of Hope charity organization.

FAFA started in 2008 as an effort to promote peace and harmony after the 2007-2008 post-election violence in Kenya. The event aims to draw the world’s attention towards African fashion, music and arts.
