Paris Haute Couture week witnesses colourful parades

The house of Schiaparelli, founded by the late couturier and Coco Chanel contemporary Elsa Schiaparelli, opened the second day of Paris Haute Couture week with its latest Autumn/Winter collection.

Inspired from an early-twentieth-century photographs taken with Eastman Kodak’s non-substantive color reversal film Kodachrome, the entire line was based on a dominating palette of shocking pink, a colour favoured by the brand’s Italian founder.

Created by the Parisian label’s Milan-born design head Marco Zanini, the range included an unevenly draped evening gown, a pair of black crocodile gauntlet gloves, an embroidered purple jumpsuit and a broad shouldered suit jacket paired with wide leg pants.

After Schiaparelli’s colourful extravaganza, another French couture label Christian Dior grabbed the spotlight at the widely celebrated made-to-order fashion runway with its newest creations, designed by the brand’s creative director of Belgian descent Raf Simons.

A delightful blend of futuristic, red carpet and art-house like looks, the line showed a delicately embroidered ivory brocade full-skirted dress with panniers and a parachute silk made boiler suit with metallic thread embroidery worn with loose leather gloves.

The 60-piece collection also featured some confection hued crystal-studded Edwardian-style frock coats, full-length fur coats, chiffon slips, and long coats and wide-legged trouser combos.

The Italian-born French fashion designer Giambattista Valli took inspiration from a sunny beachside holiday for his latest haute couture presentation which featured a yellow and green coloured daisy-patterned lace crafted mermaid cut skirt, a ruffled chiffon ball skirt and some striped cotton shirts worn with relaxed rolled-up pyjamas in shades of off-white, citrus yellow, lime green, blush pink, magenta and powder-blue.
