Baroque & Le Corbusier inspire Chanel's haute couture line

The French fashion house Chanel kicked off the third day of Paris Haute Couture week with its new Autumn/Winter 2015 collection inspired from the 17th and mid-18th century European art form Baroque and the works of the 19th century Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier.

Designed under the aesthetic guidance of the label’s 80-year-old creative helm of German descent Karl Lagerfeld, the range was crafted from neoprene, silk, distressed tweed and crêpe de Chine materials. Some of the most standout pieces from the line were a stunning cream coloured, egg-shaped seamless wedding gown with buttons and paired with a sweeping gold brocade cape, a gilded top adorned with concrete tiles like embroidery, jewelled bodices, shiny gunmetal dresses, sculptural sequined bell skirts, metallic silver grey lace dress and thigh-length shorts.

After Chanel’s textured tweed and shiny gown extravaganza, Bouchra Jarrar, the French fashion designer who had made her official debut as an haute couturier in the Parisian event’s January, 2014 calendar after receiving the appellation by the French fashion industry governing body Chambre Syndicale de la haute couture, took over the runway with her latest presentation.

Infused with the couturier’s signature sportswear-inspired detailing and modernist tailoring, the featured pieces were zippered leather jackets, crystal encrusted T-shirt dresses, open back vests, languid grey satin pants with athletic stripes on sides, tweed and leather made T-shirts and flowing animal printed pleated chiffon dresses.

Armani Prive, from the Italian design veteran Giorgio Armani, showcased an abundance of decorative colourful overlays on its creations. The range included quilted ruffled capes, curved-shouldered pant suits with inflated round sleeves and black tulle dresses teamed with red polka dotted net veils.
