A spectacular array of printed colourful nylon, polyester and spandex swimsuits, painstakingly crafted by a host of leading international swimwear designers, were paraded at the just held edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim show.

The young Miami-bred designer Francesca Aiello, behind the independent fashion brand Frankie’s Bikinis, staged her debut catwalk show at the Miami event, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The 19-year-old’s third collection, which is available for sale at ShopBop and some selected American boutiques, was a harmonious blend of Hawaiian shoreline with southern Californian coastal styles. The feminine and flirty bohemian designs included low-cut bikini bottoms with bold crochet details and crisscross back tops in lavender, blue and bright orange hues.

Beachwear label Maaji Swimwear, headed by designer Juliana Londoño, showed sportswear-inspired pieces replete with rash guards and long-sleeves. The most standout ensembles were underwire tops, strappy back bikinis, and lingerie like elastic and trim adorned one or two pieces.

New York-based fashion designer Mara Hoffman drew inspiration from a recent trip to Guatemala for her brightly coloured and vibrantly printed swimsuits with innovative shapes and silhouettes, while the L*SPACE by Monica Wise brand opted to highlight a wide variety of bold reversible and wrap style swimsuits in pastels, bright colours and tribal prints at the five-day event.
