South African, Scandinavian and Chinese fashion came together to showcase their best at the just held edition of Edinburgh International Fashion Festival, a broad spectrum fest that hosted several curated events highlighting different aspects of the fashion and knitting industry across the Scottish capital.

Themed as New Horizons, the soiree primarily aimed at promoting Scottish design talents through a host of runway shows, interactive sessions and exhibitions.

Designer labels like Zoe Bedeaux, Bebaroque, Jacob Birge Vision, Christina Borcher, Hussein Chalayan, Clements Ribeiro, Saunt and Sinner, Obscure Couture and Bella Freud showcased their avant-garde lines of woven and knitted materials at the eight-day fest.

China’s famous knitwear specialist Erdos Cashmere Group featured an exclusive range from its 1436 label. Created under the guidance of its Scotsman creative director Graeme Black, the line highlighted the brand’s centuries-old knitted yarns and garments trade relationship with Scotland.

Replete with super-fine intarsia weave, the 100 percent Chinese made pieces were decorated with Celtic symbols, Scottish national emblem thistle flower designs, Chinese porcelain motifs, abstract tartan checks and Mongolian flower and other arts and crafts-inspired patterns.

The one-off 47-piece collection included a gorgeous cashmere strapless prom number, a long fisherman knit dress, a long bright red flared skirt, and some long cashmere coats and block-print organza skirts.

In addition to runway shows, the soiree, running into its third year, also hosted a forum (conducted by British high-street purveyor Topshop), the Nordic Knitathon, a giant blanket knitting event, as well as a crochet workshop.
