The Alberta-born, New York-trained designer Sid Neigum kicked off the Canadian bi-annual soiree Toronto Fashion Week with his latest modular origami-inspired Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

The range, which also bagged the coveted Mercedes-Benz Start Up contest prize on the opening day, showcased an array of clothing, such as sleek skirts and belted dresses with asymmetrical hemlines, featuring laser cut shapes and hand-sewn 3-D geometric patterns.

Kimberley Newport-Mimran, the designer behind the home-grown sophisticated womenswear brand Pink Tartan, reinterpreted 1970s trends with a modern twist. Accentuated with ruche detailing and painterly bloom, floral and paisley prints, the collection included fringe-adorned vests, skirts, dresses, halter bathing suits, jumpsuits, tops with tie-up necks, furry blouses, wide-legged culottes and high-waist flared pants.

In addition to the aforementioned names, labels Beaufille, BLAK.I, Laura Siegel and Vaiken also showcased their latest creative innovations on the first day of the World Master Card Fashion Week Toronto which is slated to run through October 25, 2014. (PB)
