Nayuma Women's Cooperative Society will organize Grishma Utsav – 2006 mela at Gangtok from May 20 to June 12, 2006. In this mela, some local cooperative societies and self help groups will participate and showcase products like handicrafts, handloom textiles and other homemade items.
Sheela Rai, General Manager, Nayuma Women's Cooperative Society, said, "We have invited most of the cooperatives in the state and a few from other states to participate in the event. Thirty stalls for state participants have been erected for the event in which local products of the state will be exhibited for sale.”
Purpose behind Grishma Utsav-2006 is to provide opportunity to local cooperative societies to exhibit their products and market them.
Nayuma Women's Cooperative society has organized similar event even in last year. The society was formed in 2001 and has four branches in the state.
It has been conducting capacity-building programme among women of the state in the field of tailoring, handloom textiles, handicrafts and generating other self-employment avenues besides creating markets for them.
