FIFA World Cup 2006 pushes sports goods sales

Though the Indian team has not qualified to play in FIFA World Cup, yet, football fever has has reached a climax with the on going FIFA World Cup that began in Germany last week.

Rising sale of sports sneakers and football logo caps have increased rapidly and retailers are offering 40 percent discount on footwear, informed a retailer of Adidas, the official fotwear sponsor for the World Cup 2006.

To attract customers, apparel and sports gear leader adidas has introduced a free trip to watch World Cup finals in Germany if one proves lucky by purchasing their original shirts.

adidas has set price of sneakers between Rs2,000 to Rs20,000.

Retailers in the city are expecting rise in sale of sports apparel and footwear as the World Cup contest grows with preliminaries taking place.
