Eight Korean fashion companies for the first time have joined hands to form a united front Korea Fashion Association (KOFA) in China.
China's importance is greater considering that its fashion industry has grown to the tune of US $2 billion and is open to everyone, making it a fully flooded and highly competitive market.
Since there are only a handful of brands in the Chinese market the Korean fashion industry can survive and flourish.
Due to bureaucratic red-tape, arbitrary partners and lack of understanding of Chinese regulations, customs and distribution system, Korean companies had in the past struggled in China.
KOFA has initiated action, with the support of the Shanghai branch of the China National Garment Association, to smoothen the operations.
Committee would provide consultation and expertise through a panel of professionals and offers a channel for members to share information.
KOFA has revamped its website, offering up-to-date news on the fashion industry and profiles of members, while featuring a banner of advertisements.
Workshops, seminars and training courses have also strengthened the organization.
The association is building a distribution complex for fashion companies in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, which to be the largest of its kind in the country to meet the growing demand for warehouses.
On completion by 2009, it will boost the status of the KOFA and help establish itself as a self-governing body that truly stands for Korean fashion.
