A seminar on “Cotton enhancement programme with Lenzing fibres” was held recently."

Thomas Gaidoschik, Director, Lenzing Fibres (Hong Kong) spoke at the seminar that blending of man-made fibers, produced from natural raw materials, with cotton would help in enhancing the quality of cotton and lowering the production cost.

Lenzing Fibres of Hong Kong has been engaged in the production of fibre from natural raw materials such as beech wood by employing the lyocell process and marketed the fibres under the brand name Tencel and Modal.

The overall quality of the yarn gets improved after blending with Tencel due to its higher strength and regularity as compared to cotton.

According to Thomas, the cotton enhancement programme is aimed at enhancing the processing performance, consistency and quality of cotton yarns and fabrics by blending cellulose fiber with cotton. This would also reduce the overall raw material cost and yarn spinning cost.

Gaidoschik said the company had five production plants; two in Austria, one each in the United Kingdom, the United States, Indonesia and a sixth plant in China was under construction.

Lenzing Fibres exports 80 percent of its products abroad and its production of the fiber accounted for 20 percent of the world production.

The modified viscose fibers termed as Modal and Tencel had become very popular due to their special characteristics, particularly for apparel and made-ups applications.
