The 30th anniversary of Wastraprema (the Indonesian Traditional Textile Society) was celebrated by featuring traditional Palembang cloth at the Textile Museum.
It bestowed honors upon a number of people considered to have made a contribution to the development traditional textiles.
One of the recipients was Ali Sadikin, who had established the Textile Museum while holding Governorship of Jakarta.
Due to use of woven gold thread, in the archives of Indonesian traditional textiles, cloths from Palembang, particularly Songket, have been recognized as a luxurious textile.
The most popular textile is Songket, a popular term for cloth that incorporates rich gold thread embroidery or weaving, the techniques learned from Indian traders.
During the exhibition by Wastraprema, the private collection of Siti Bambang Oetojo, the Damais collection and dozens of items belonging to the museum were presented.
Some of the items on display were antiques with original golden thread.
