Textile exhibitions to enhance Haizhu's economy

Haizhu, capital of South China's Guangdong Province and the only island district of Guangzhou, is trying to develop itself into a commercial hub by organizing textile exhibitions.

A fabric market named 'Zhongda Fabric Market', has been set up by the Government near Sun Yat-sen University to develop textile industry covering the area of 320,000 square meters hosting 11,000 shops and 1,000 store houses.

Annual trade of textile reaches around 25 billion yuan (US $3.2 billion) as more than 20,000 category of fabrics are being traded both in local and foreign markets.

One of China's largest textile business exchange centre started in May last year is in Guangzhou International Fabrics Town, at the core of the market and has promoted many industries around the market.

Island has hosted 'Canton fair', which means major exhibition area for the Chinese export commodities and other international fairs.

Construction has already been started for the second phase of the centre, which will cover an area of 300,000 square metres, having 10,000 exhibition booths.
