They visited a farm and cotton mill in Yangiyul district (Tashkent province), cotton terminal “Tashkent-Tola” and also Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange, where they witnessed a demonstrative cotton fiber trade session.
The Fair became a unique tool in instantaneous sale of more than 1,5 mln. tones of cotton fiber.
In total, according to the results of the First Uzbek Cotton Fair, 122 contracts and forward agreements for the delivery of 1688,6 thousand tones of cotton from the yield of 2005-2007 were concluded, including 55 contracts for the delivery of 471,6 thousand tones of cotton from the yield of 2005.
Recession of textile industry in EU countries, high costs of cotton processing in developed countries, and rapid development of textile sector in South-East Asia and lifting of import quotas for textile products were the basic factors for World cotton processing centers shift from USA and Europe to South and South-East Asia countries.
As a result of this process and in order to keep the share in the structure of world exports, certain necessary adjustment measures in the strategy of Uzbek cotton sales were introduced.
And this was the reason for many opinions to have been frequently expressed during the Fair, that for this region Tashkent was the most convenient place to hold international cotton events rather than Liverpool or Bremen.
Foreign participants have also expressed the opinion that October being the month, when the period of high activity is observed in World cotton fiber market, was quite reasonably selected for holding this forum. Almost all participants expressed a wish to hold Uzbek Cotton Fair yearly on the regular basis.
