Prime Minister introduced the handloom mark in June to mark the handloom products as reliable that may push the sector and these products. The products will be promoted as 'heritage product' offshore.

Products under the Indian brand will have items like cotton handloom durries, carpets, home furnishings, chappals, glittering jewellery and other designer textiles and so on.

An official from the Textile Ministry informed that the above measures were taken so as to enable exporters and manufacturers to face the challenges of globalization and modernisation.

EVKS Elangovan, Minister of State for Textiles said that India is the only country where hand weaving is part of the culture and they intend to cash in on it by commercial utilization.

The Minister informed that the handloom fabric production has increased by 4.16 percent since 2004-05 after it had gone down for the last four years.
