Second fashion week in Delhi started on Wednesday with almost all the top designers of country participating in weeklong event and the show opened with the collections of New Delhi based designer Manish Arora.

Vinod Kaul, who directed Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) for two consecutive years, said that for the first time number of designers has gone down.

The catwalk was witnessed by international media barons like Vogue, Tetler and other magazines as well. The event has been made biannual affair to target the international segments.

Kaul stated that it is imperative that big designers participate in the show but preparing for two consecutive seasons back to back is just too much work and cost as well.

Designer Ritu Kumar is in Paris to showcase her designs and the rest are apprehensive about the presence of buyers who are not here in large numbers. For example, buyers were absent even thought the seminar was for them.

Observers opine that the fashion week has come of age even as Rana Danesh of MAC who is here as an invitee said that she was having a close look at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), as MAC had been invited to take up the make up job.

This perhaps is one of the indicators along with the large presence of international media that India has made a mark at the international level, truly great news for the Indian fashion industry.
