In this year's Spring Fashion Show, the Glasgow School of Art's textile department has encouraged its second and third year students to create 'designs which are environmentally sustainable and resource efficient'.
In the well-rehearsed and high-energy show, the focus was understandably on the use of fabric as opposed to innovative tailoring, which led to a certain amount of repetition, with leggings and cut-away backs constantly recurring.
Many of the third year students played it safe, when they applied simple geometric patterns to the recovered material and opting for designs with little depth, movement or detail.
There were also the recovered and reutilized fabrics harmonious with the design, as with the very wearable tweed collections, of which the costume-like element to Claire McLachlan's work was outstanding.
The sportswear collection made a difference with a baby's buggy and the 'little ned riding hood' look, in the Spring Fashion Show, which provided an ideal platform for students to fine-tune their organizational and team skills.
