In a bid to revive the jewellery tradition, the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America Association is opening a two-day trade show on September 27 in Providence, which was once regarded as the Jewelry Capital of the World.
In first jewellery show after 2001, the attendees will be given a chance to see the material, equipment, packaging and service offerings they need to design and manufacture jewelry.
The exhibition will have training sessions for industry members and represents the industry on trade matters and legislative issues. The association has more than 1,900 jewelry companies around the country, on its member list.
Earlier, the association stopped hosting a show here because the state's jewelry industry had withered away to the point where it wasn't a viable event.
Since the last trade show held in 2001, the whole landscape changed radically and there's a whole big wave of jewelry-making.
The MJSA event in Providence is touted as a regional event to serve the jewelry industry in New England, with about 100 exhibitors and 1,000 attendees registered.
The much awaited and anticipated show is expected to throw open a new market of niche customers for the suppliers among its membership.
