Polk County's Quality Textile Company (QTC) is undergoing expansion with purchase of a building in Pea Ridge and it wants to double its functioning through the building in two years.

QTC appointed 20 workers and plans to appoint another 45. Presently company has 35 employees in Polk County, and with addition of the new ones QTC will become a big county employer with strength of about 100 workers.

Owner Fred Ashley said he has placed apparatus worth $400,000 at the Pea Ridge unit and some apparatus will be shifted from Florida plant. He also wants to improve the company's cleanroom facility.

Most workers are inhabitants of Polk and Rutherford counties. QTC makes cleanroom products for computer, auto, nuclear and electronic industries.

Some employees of QTC work in cleanroom facilities or laundry. The rest work at home, which is rarely seen in other companies.

Home source workers sew specialty cloths resembling hankies according to Ashley. They get training from QTC and then work on a sewing machine provided by QTC, from home.

Ashley also said that some employees make many cloths while others work part time, adding that he requires ten more home source workers for the new unit.

QTC is expanding to cater to new customers from China, Mexico and Korea, thus benefiting Polk County.
