The fourth round of FTA talks will take place from 23 to 27 October in Korea's resort island of Jeju.
Seoul and Washington are aiming to secure a trade deal by March 2007 amid strong protests from Korean farmers and civic groups who feel threatened by a possible influx of the US products.
To maximize its position Korea will vigilantly and thoroughly prepare policies for the free trade agreement talks with the US.
The most important part of the Korea-US FTA talks is the proposed rate and time frame for tariff cuts.
They will seek to devise the most effective negotiation strategies.
The ministry stressed that the automobile and textile sectors would be treated carefully in the trade talks and a separate negotiation strategy would be established for these sectors, keeping in mind Washington's strategies and its sensitivity towards autos and textiles.
Business representatives stressed that industrial products, especially textiles, cannot be sacrificed to protect the country's sensitive agricultural goods.
Washington is demanding tariff cuts on automobiles and Seoul in return wants the US acceptance of Korean textile goods made of yarn or material from a different country.
Korea is the US' seventh-largest trading partner with two-way trade amounting to US $72 billion.
