Fabindia in Kala Ghoda is showcasing some jute works by talented artists from across the country till October 23. Aurangabad-based designer Mohammed Nizamuddin is putting on display jute cushion covers with shiny sequins and embellished adornments.
These covers are available in different sizes and are washable. Nizam also does zardozi, chikan and kantha work on the cushions. They have a beautiful effect which is preferred and purchased mostly by foreigners.
He gets lot of inspiration from nature and tries to use geometric forms because he thinks they look great on cushion covers. In Aurangabad, Nizam has his own workshop with 12 women working from home.
He got a Diploma in Textile Designing and he also did a dyeing and printing course from the Weaver's Service Centre few years back to further hone his skills.
During this period he met Monica Correa, who became his friend, philosopher and guide. Nizam is very grateful to both Mrs Correa and her husband for helping him to come a long way in his career.
