It was the afternoon of November 28, at the new plant's gate of Guohui Shoe Company in Quanzhou, Jinjiang, more than 10,000 pair shoes of B products were burned by the boss himself in front of hundreds of workers, black smoke rising from the raging fire almost covered half sky.

That afternoon, rich colored shoes piled up high like small hill on the plant's ground, and 'guohui' labels were exceptionally striking the eyes.

At around 5 pm, after opening remarks, the general manager of the company took out a lighter to ignite and instantly, the fire engulfed the entire 'shoe mountain'. Fires raging and smoke billowing. Along with blowing wind, heat and stench spreading into the crowds, people were forced to recede.

Deputy Director Xu said that the company burned more than 10,000 pairs of shoes this time, worth of 300 million yuan, most of the shoes were found questionable with quality in production process and some shoes were returned by dealers.

He said, "To pay such a heavy price is to arouse everybody's alarm and rise the employees' awareness that we must pay more attention to improving quality."

In this regard, the City's Environmental Protection Bureau said that, from a qualitative standpoint, it was worthy of recognition. But from an environmental point of view, this approached irregularities. If enterprises wanted to incinerate a lot of waste, they must first obtain the approval from the environmental protection departments.
