At the first ever regional diamond industry roundtable conference held during Watch & Jewellery Dubai 2006 (WJD), experts concluded that Dubai has the potential and competitiveness to become a global trade center for diamond sector.

This conference was organized by Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC), which conducts WJD, in association with Diamond Trading Company (DTC) to enable firms and associations of the region to exchange their views.

Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, DWTC, conveyed that interaction between industrial leaders will facilitate enterprises to achieve retail efficiency, better product performance and wider markets since currently there is heavy demand for diamonds worldwide.

WJD 2006 has registered 20 percent rise in participation from diamond firms.

Conference also focused on Dubai's role of being a first signatory of Kimberly Process certification. Only those nations which have obtained this certification can trade diamonds and this has made 99.8 percent of sold diamonds conflict-free.
