TEX SUMMIT 2007 begins tomorrow!

The Ministry of Textiles is organizing TEX Summit 2007, the conference to deliberate upon areas of concern for textile sector to further boost productivity & export, and to realize the potential of the sector in generating employment. The two day summit with the theme “Exploring Growth Paradigms” will be inaugurated by Shri Kamal Nath, Minister for Commerce & Industry, here tomorrow . Shri Shankarsinh Vaghela, Minister of Textiles, Shri Oscar Fernandes Minister of State for Labour & Employment (I/C), and Shri C. Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister will also address the inaugural session.

It need not be reiterated that the textile industry in India has carved a niche for itself in world market and provides the maximum employment only next agriculture in our country. The sector has re-positioned itself as a 'sunrise industry' during the recent past. Recognizing the need to build on the strengths like large production base, easy access to raw materials, present across the entire value chain, availability of skilled workforce and expertise in designs and motifs, the Tex Summit 2007 proposes to address variety of issues concerning these areas.

To address these issues in cohesive manner four working groups covering Textile Inputs – physical framework, Human Resource Development, Policy Framework and Role of Government and Market Development have been constituted. The Working Groups will consist of leading members of trade and industry, economists, academicians, experts, financial analysts who will deliberate the various issues arising in these areas and suggest the policy framework as roadmap for further growth of sector.
