Tex Summit gets to a flying start!

Tex Summit kicked off to a flying start. The event was inaugurated at the Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, today!

Panel of speakers included Textile Minister Shri Shankarsinh Vaghela, Oscar Fernandes Minister of State for Labour & Employment (I/C), ICMF Chairman BK Patodia, Kamal Nath, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mukund Choudhary, Managing Director, Spentex Industries and Dr. C Rangarajan, Chairman of Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister.

Delegates offered a detailed insight into the strengths and weaknesses of textile industry. Shankarsinh Vaghela thanked the Commerce and Labour Ministries for their presence. He urged all the ministries to support textile industry, which was one of key contributors to India's economy.

Vaghela further hoped that the Union Ministry would understand and ponder over the issues that are raised by the industry during the two day summit. He, especially, requested Dr Rangarajan to present views and opinions that would help Prime Minister to come up with beneficial schemes. He stressed that only with collaborated efforts and cooperation, textile industry can achieve the target of US $115 billion by 2012.

At the Tex Summit Working Group I held post lunch discussions that revolved around TUFS and its various modalities. Policies concerning fibre industry, both man-made and natural, were also discussed at length.

Basically, Group wanted to formulate a single broad based policy for fibre segment.

Recommendation for adequate funds for technical textiles was also made here.
