With a view to encourage new investment in the emerging area of Technical Textiles, he announced the setting up of a Technology Mission on Technical Textiles to direct the growth of such products in desired measures in a time bound manner. He also stated that the Textile Ministry is planning to create Investment Regions for Textiles Sectors which can reduce transaction costs and enhance competitiveness by removing procedural bottlenecks. On the manpower front, he disclosed that the Ministry is working on a scheme for training a million persons in five years on specific textile related trades. He urged the Textile Ministry to finalise these two proposals at the earliest.
Regarding handloom sector the Prime Minister said, “This is a part of our heritage and is an asset which we must preserve, not only for its heritage value but for its employment value.” He stated that the Government has launched Handloom Mark and the Silk Mark to create additional value for the genuine product. The Textile Ministry is working out a programme for revitalising the Handloom Cooperatives on the pattern of agricultural cooperatives. Private industry can be a major partner in enabling the transition of handlooms from low value to high value products. For enabling this transition, the Ministry should work out appropriate PPP model.
Earlier, Shri Ashwani Kumar, Minister of State for Industries, who is also the Chairman of one of the Working Groups, spoke on the occasion detailing the recommendations made on the Market Development. The recommendations of rest of the other three Working Groups were also made by the respective Chairman of the Groups.
Shri Shankersinh Vaghela, Minister of Textiles also spoke on the occasion put forth the problems faced by the textile industry presently and said that to overcome the difficulties faced by the industry, the Ministry and the industry will work together for finding solutions. Shri E.V.K.S. Elangovan, Minister of State for Textiles was also present on the occasion.
